About Your Practitioner
Denise Marleyn, founder of Persephone, is a qualified Psychotherapist, Hypnotherapist and Personal Development consultant, trained in psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, counselling and cognitive therapy techniques. She also specialises in stress, anxiety and psychosomatic/stress-related conditions as well as in birth and fertility and is dedicated to helping and supporting her clients to make positive, long-lasting, healing changes in their lives and relationships She is also Certified HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Educator and qualified HypnoFertility Therapist with a particular interest in how stress and anxiety (including previous trauma-related stress and anxiety) affects fertility and birth.
Denise is a mind-body therapist and works from a holistic perspective, based on her personal knowledge and philosophy of the self-healing capacity of the body. She qualified in hypnotherapy and psychotherapy with the National College of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists (NCHP) in 1994 and has since completed further training and qualifications in HypnoBirthing® and HypnoFertility with the HypnoBirthing® Institute of America. She has continued her education and training in complementary mind-body therapies with courses in dance movement therapy (University of London) and a Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology (CCST) as well as further training in hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, gestalt psychotherapy and NLP psychotherapy (symbolic modelling).Whilst maintaining her private practice, Denise continues to expand her knowledge of psychology and mental distress still further, studying for a BSc at the Open University.
Denise's unique training combination, incorporating and integrating knowledge of the mind and emotions with knowledge of body systems, muscle tension and movement patterns - and how these can contribute to mind-body problems particularly anxiety and stress-related issues - allows her a deeper understanding leading to more effective therapy.
Her main therapeutic modalities are Psychotherapy, Hypno-Psychotherapy, Counselling, Cognitive therapies, Stress Management and Relaxation, including autogenic (body awareness), techniques.
Denise employs her unusually well-developed natural talents in communication, emotional expression, and intuition, gained as a former professional violinist - performing at the highest level in orchestral and solo opportunities - as well as an experienced teacher and communicator, to facilitate a non-judgemental, compassionate understanding of the client's issues thereby enabling support and nurture of greater self-awareness and self-acceptance in her clients. This combination opens the doorway to healing and positive change.
Her successful experiences as a former London professional violinist have given her extensive experience in inspiring adults both to resource confident, optimum relaxed states under pressure and also to successfully attain their personal and professional goals. Former therapy clients have commented on her empathy and compassion.
Denise is registered with the National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists (NRHP)and the HypnoBirthing® Institute of America (HypnoBirthing® Institute) and abides by the Codes of Practice and Ethics of the NRHP, the Hypnobirthing® Institute and the UKCP - the national governing body for psychotherapy.
National College of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists
The national college is one of only 4 training colleges which reaches the high standards of training accepted and accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy - the national governing body for psychotherapy. (See training for hypnotherapists) The National College is the only institution of its kind externally accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education. Such accreditation has been acknowledged by the Secretary of State for Education as the only public guarantee of standards in independent institutions of further and higher education in the UK.
National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists
Denise is a member of the National Register (NRHP) which is a member of the Hypno-psychotherapy section of the UKCP. NRHP members are strictly regulated both by the organisation and by UKCP for standards of practice, training, ethics and continuing professional development.
HypoBirthing® Institute
Denise is a fully qualified and registered member of the HypnoBirthing® Institute of USA. Members are regulated by a Code of practice, Ethics and undergo yearly re-certification along with continuing professional development.
